The Purest Lake in the World

I picked up a quarter from the ground, held it up and couldn't believe what I saw.

The embossed picture on the back of the quarter matched the spectacular panorama right in front of me.

Of course, that's not the only reason why my heart skipped a beat. For those of you who don't know, I've been on this ambitious quest to complete all the US State Quarters (thanks Dad - why did you have to bestow upon me that collection booklet) - and like most things fun, once you start it's hard to stop.

Crater Lake is definitely one of those spots on the planet I would suggest seeing before you... er... "cease to exist". One of the THREE purest lakes in the world (2 of them are in Oregon! and the other one is in Siberia), it's also the deepest lake in the US. Only rain and snow feed this body of water, which is held by a caldera formed by what was once (or is it still?) Mount Mazama, and this is the reason why this lake is so pure and clean and blue.

Even Fox was curious what's down there.

Fox needs a haircut, can you tell? He looks like the cute version of gremlin with hair sticking out from his ears.

I've made several video snippets of this place and our campground to compile together with the other travel videos (God knows when that will happen) and the rest of the photos we took here will be going to my flickr album. (There's a lot more pics and very interesting facts in there, so make sure you check it out when you can.)
As for the quarter I found, it's going into its rightful place: my coin collection booklet.
