Okay, here it is, finally, my first posting (July 5th for June 11th).
Rikki and I began our Eastern Sierra/High Desert journey in Red Rock Canyon, a California State Park. The canyon is actually the southern tip of the Sierra Nevada mountain range and is located at the northern edge of the Mojave Desert.
While camping at Red Rock we took an all day off road drive along Jawbone Canyon Road up into Sequoia National Forest and back along Dove Springs Road. The following day we drove out to Lake Isabella.
A few bits of family history: my mom tells me that she and my dad used to drive from North Hollywood to Red Rock to go hiking when they were dating fifty-plus years ago. My paternal grandfather also loved this area. The hills and Joshua trees were the subject of many of his pencil drawings.
